Like many Western cities Seattle is experiencing rapid growth. The University District is one of the city’s three “regional growth centers,” targeted to receive an impressive share of new homes and jobs during the next 20 years.

The U District, home of the beautiful central campus of the University of Washington, is a complete urban neighborhood - an active commercial center with dense housing, convenient transit connections, and rich recreational, dining, and cultural opportunities. Regional planning has led to zoning changes and expansion of public transit options. Land values are rising, and pressure is increasing for higher-density redevelopment.

The Ecumenical Campus will be adjacent to the central U.W. campus and excellent transit connections. Facility design will be appropriate to the scale and context of the neighborhood, and in harmony with its eclectic character.
